Winterfest by the Sea Starts Holiday Shopping Nov. 14

The Chamber's indoor holiday market fills the Sports & Civic Center on the Boardwalk with craft vendors, food and a strolling Santa.

What it is

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce runs this holiday shopping event, now in its sixth year. Craft vendors and food vendors fill the hall, and Santa walks the floor while people shop.

When

Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where

The Ocean City Sports & Civic Center, on the Boardwalk at 6th St. (804 E. 6th St.). The whole event is indoors, so a cold or windy November day won't get in the way.

Cost

Event listings say it is open to the public. The city's calendar doesn't list an admission fee.

Tips

Go early for the best selection from the craft vendors.
Bring the kids if they have a few things to tell Santa.
Make a day of it with a walk on the Boardwalk.

More holiday shopping this month

Sat. Nov. 21: "Earlier Than the Bird" downtown, 8 a.m. to noon. Shoppers are invited to come in their pajamas for early-bird specials. Horse and carriage rides run from noon to 3 p.m. at 6th and Asbury.
Fri. Nov. 27: Christmas in the Downtown, "Our Miracle on Asbury Avenue," 2 to 5 p.m., with Santa arriving at 5.

Winterfest is a nice way to support local makers before the bigger holiday crowds show up, and it fits easily into a fall weekend at the shore.

If you're coming from off the island, the Civic Center is a short walk from the north end of the Boardwalk. Dress for the weather on the walk over, then warm up inside. Check the Chamber's site the week before for the latest vendor list and any changes to the schedule.
